Skinny jeans...really??!!

Yesterday I had a rare day out with my daughter.  We had an enjoyable time at the cinema where I boogied along to the songs from The Lion King whilst my daughter gave me a look which I'm pretty sure I shouldn't interpret as 'mummy, you are so cool!'. She then enjoyed lunch at a well known fast food chain that as an adult I find particularly rank, but she enjoyed her meal inbetween getting up no less than 5 times to change balloon. (A balloon which may I add got returned as soon as we had left as she did not want to carry it!) And she was also really happy with her 'free' rather irritating echo toy.  We also had a trip to the library (daughter shouting loudly into afore mentioned echo toy all the way) to pull out a vast array of books, some of which weren't entirely age approriate but hey ho, she was happy!

Then we popped into a clothes shop.  My aim to buy her some jeans and some jumpers.  Well, I don't consider myself to be old fashioned or a fuddy duddy, and indeed my daughter has items of clothing that I know I would not have had as a child, but she is 4, not 24.  She needs normal jeans, perhaps with cute flowers stitched on them, and normal age appropriate jumpers with hearts or fairies or cute fluffy animals on them.  She does not need short sleeved jumpers with studs on the shoulders and belts round the middle, and I am fairly certain her jeans do not need to be skinny fit!!!!  Well, apparently they do because I could not find one 'normal' pair!  Am I alone in this I wonder?  Surely it is not unreasonable to keep my 4 year old looking like a child?  Apparently it is verging on impossible these days.  A friend told me recently that she struggled to buy pants for her daughter as rather than just being able to walk into a shop and browse the rows of Peppa Pig, or Charlie and Lola pants and just pick the size, we are now faced with hipsters, and high legs.  If you want vests, well you can have cropped or cami tops, obviously proper vests are out!!  Why are shops so keen to make our daughters into women already?  Are children really that fashion conscious at 4?  Well, forgive me if you will as I would like to keep my little girl just that for a while.  Obviously that will be in her skinny jeans as well, she can't go without clothes can she?!
